Welcome to the Grapevine Historical Society

Monday, March 25 General Meeting:
Richard M. Gano & The Gano House

Gene Helmick-Richardson will talk about Civil War General Richard Gano, who farmed in Grapevine from 1855 to 1865. You’ll also learn about Gano’s earlier Huguenot ancestors who arrived in the US prior to the Revolutionary War, and his later descendants - one in particular who made his own significant mark in American history. Gene will also share about four of the Gano enslaved, particularly the girl who served as the nanny for his children.

Gene has been employed with Old City Park in Dallas for ten years, interpreting the Gano family’s Grapevine farmhouse that was moved to Dallas in 1974.

Grapevine is one of the oldest communities in Tarrant County, tracing its roots back to 1844. This city, for many years a small farming town, grew rapidly in the last half of the 20th century and is now a dynamic place with a rich history which we invite you to explore with us.
